Bruce Springsteen thrills as usual as Hampden crowd of all ages enjoys a mammoth concert filled with classics

HE may be old enough to pick up his bus pass but Bruce Springsteen proved he appeals to all ages with one young fan becoming part of his Scottish show.
Wearing a Stars and Stripes outfit the youngster was plucked onstage during the opening number Waitin' On A Sunny Day at Hampden Stadium.
And she didn't let The Boss down when she was handed the microphone for her solo vocal that proved her the bearer of a fine pair of tonsils.

It was the perfect start for the 66-year old rock legend who had stepped onstage with his E Street Band and announced: "Hello Glasgow, what a beautiful day," in reference to the city's heatwave.
Springsteen's arrival elicited a deafening Hampden roar from over 50,000 fans before he launched into Spirit In The Night and My Love Will Not Let You Down and got the place rocking.
The show was based around Springsteen's 1980 double album The River – including The tracks Point Blank, Sherry Darling and Two Hearts, a duet with guitarist Stevie Van Zandt, as was You Can Look (But You Better Not Touch).

The set list
The New Jersey rocker, who last played Hampden in June, 2013 led his E Street Band also powered through hits spanning more than 40 years during a performance that lasted close on three-and-a-half hours.

Many of the songs were requests from the crowd such as Rosalita, "for Mags who loved it" and Sandy because "it's my wedding song", before Hungry Heart.
But of course by then he had turned it up a notch with more of the big guns including Dancing In The Dark.

The Happy fan
One lady held up a placard that read, "I've waited 40 years for a dance. You askin? I'm
dancing."
He duly obliged while another fan got the chance to join him on guitar.
Out In The Street and later American Skin (41 Shots), the song Springsteen wrote in 2001 about Amadou Diallo, a Guinean immigrant who was killed in his New York City doorway when New York City police shot at him 41times after mistaking his wallet for a gun added to the show's unpredictability.

The Boss in action
Then came one of his best songs, The River – the title track of the acclaimed album that inspired this tour.
Add 1984's Darkness on The Edge Of Town, The Promised Land and Patti Smith's 1978 hit Because The Night (which Springsteen co-wrote with Smith) and it was enough to make you nostalgic for the era of Reaganomics ... almost.
Born to Run and Born in the USA and finally proved that Springsteen’s Glory Days are anything but a thing of the past.
